Trawler
Slow, efficient and made to live aboard

A trawler trades speed for range and comfort. Displacement hull, modest fuel burn and a layout built for actually living aboard rather than day-tripping. It is the boat for people whose plan is the Great Loop or a season in the Bahamas, not a fast run to the reef.
What it is good for
- Living aboard and long-distance cruising
- The Intracoastal at a civilized pace
- Owners who value range and economy over speed
What to watch for
- Slow means weather windows matter more, not less.
- Single-engine models are economical but leave you without redundancy.
- High freeboard makes docking in wind harder than it looks.
The dock it needs
Wants a real slip with shore power and depth, but the modest speed means no-fixed-bridge access matters less than it does for a sportfish. Liveaboard rules vary by marina and by city — check before you commit.
