Express cruiser
A cabin, a bed and a weekend in the Keys

An express cruiser is where a day boat becomes a small yacht: an enclosed cabin with a berth, a galley and a head, under a helm you can run from a comfortable seat. It is the boat for people whose plan is Boca Chita on Saturday and back on Sunday, or the crossing to Bimini when the window is right.
What it is good for
- Overnights at Boca Chita, Elliott Key or the upper Keys
- Couples who want shade, air conditioning and a bed
- Running the Intracoastal in comfort
What to watch for
- Air conditioning and a genset mean shore power at the dock — confirm the amperage before you buy the house.
- Deeper draft: some canals and sandbars are simply off the table at low tide.
- Two engines, two of everything to service. Budget accordingly.
The dock it needs
This is the size where the dock starts to dictate the house. Look for 40–55 ft of dock, real depth at mean low water, and 50A shore power. Ocean access without fixed bridges stops being a nice-to-have.
