Personal watercraft
The cheapest way onto the water
- Typical length
- 10–14 ft
- Typical draft
- 0.5–1 ft
- Dock needed
- 20 ft for the largest
- Depth at MLW
- 2.5 ft or more
A jet ski is not a compromise boat, it is a different activity. Cheap to buy, cheap to store, and the fastest way to be on the water fifteen minutes after deciding to go. In South Florida they are also the most regulated: know the rules before you launch.
What it is good for
- Short rides, sandbar hops and towing behind a bigger boat
- Owners with no slip and no trailer space for a real boat
What to watch for
- Florida has age and education requirements specific to personal watercraft.
- Many municipalities restrict where they can be operated — check locally.
- Salt water demands flushing after every single ride.
The dock it needs
Needs almost nothing: a floating dock, a small lift or a davit. Many waterfront homes fit two alongside a larger boat.
Own one already? Put your length and draft in your Adonait Dock profile and we will email you when a waterfront home comes up with a dock that fits it.
Other boat types
General orientation for South Florida waters, not professional advice. Lengths and drafts are typical ranges — the only numbers that matter are the ones on the specific hull you are looking at. Before buying, get a survey from an accredited marine surveyor and verify depth and clearance on the actual route you will run.
Everything on Adonait Dock
Adonait Dock is the South Florida boating marketplace and community: buy and sell boats, engines, electronics and slips; offer or request marine services; find sandbars, ramps, waterfront parks and dock-and-dine spots; join raft-ups and group cruises; and search waterfront homes with private docks for sale and for rent. Listings and posts are created by members — Adonait is not a party to any transaction between them.
